Everywhere its the same. GTA IV sucks. When you ask why these are the common answers
Graphics are bad.
Story is bad.
Driving is bad.
AI is bad.So lets see if these complaints have anything to them
Graphics-Everyone says "This game does not look as good as call of duty so the graphics suck". Well if GTA IV were a First person shooter that would be true but your comparing two different genres of games. GTA IV has one big city with intellegent traffic, people, physics, dynamic whether, dynamic lighting and no loading times all being loaded at the same time with no framerate drops. The graphics are going to be tuned down a little bit because of this but even with this the graphics are being pushed to their fullest potential. First person shooter games like call of duty can have better graphics then GTA because, in general, the games are much smaller. Call of duty 4 loads much smaller environment (about the size of a city block building while GTA IV loads a whole city) so you are free to pump up the detail of the graphics without a framerate drop. This is why GTA IV graphics are not bad when you look at it from a technical view.
Story-Opinion I guess but if you play through the story you will find that GTA IV's storyline is much more emotionally deep then the others (especially san andreas which had an immature wannabe gangsta theme) and it has a different outcome then previously seen in GTA games before it. Plus Niko himself makes for a stong and unconventional character who is much more unique then the previous 5 characters (counting the psp games). I cant say GTA IV is the best out of all the GTA games because thats an opinion but I can say that the storyline is not bad.
Driving-The driving isnt really bad its just different. Cars in this game are much "heavier" then the toy cares of last gen GTA so you must slow down a bit before making a 90 degree turn. Its just a step towards the realism you guys want. You cant use a handbrake in real life or you will just spin out. Its simple physics really...
AI-Overall the AI in people are far from geniuses but they are a great improvement from San Andreas. People will take cover when your shooting at them and if your cornered they will sneak up on you and kill you. Even ordinary NPC's have a much better sense of self preservation then before.
For what I can see there is nothing to hate about this game unless
1.Your a hater
2.You dont like shooter games or sandbox games (that would a reasonable reason).
3.Your mom or dad wont buy it for you so you go to websites saying the game sucks for no reason.
We all have different choices in games but needless hate on a successful game is unnecessary. Successful games only drive other gaming companies to make better games if there are other good games on the market so there is nothing really wrong with a game selling well and being well received.

Have you ever asked yourself, “What would you get if you mixed fairy tales, paper-thin characters (literally), and a charming, colourful aesthetic?” No, me neither, but thankfully developer Sleepy Castle Studio did, because now we have Escape from Ever After!

"Time to play another mascot horror game. And this time it is called Rainbow Gate. This game was developed and published by 7EVIL Studio. I have not seen anything on this before so I’ll be going in blind. It is up for wish listing on Steam right now, for anyone who is into mascot horrors." Kyle @ TC
Crimson Desert will not feaature microtransactions, as developer Pearl Abyss wants players to enjoy the game world.
1) GTA Streamloads the city - it does not load the entire city at once - just the immediate area that you can see + a % so yeah while you can see the entire city - you can't see it all at once all active at once. System constantly loads the % buffer so it looks like it is rendering the entire city - IT IS NOT.
Even in multiplayer it only renders what it has to for each player (and each client does most of that )
Thus your first point is rubbish - the graphics can and should be better.
2) A the story - it's ok but it sure wasn't anything special or anything not seen before. It's ok but it doesn't push boundaries or philosophical discussion like games such as bioshock and mass effect. It's a vehicle to create opportunities for violence and to create a sense of depth that really isn't there, so mediocre at best.
3)Driving... yes people bag on that to much - Learn to Drive people!
4) AI - far from geniuses is an understatement... it's weak especially for the police and others that chase you.
so you can have your opinion and I will have mine... Call me a hater if you want but GTA IV is not all that. It's a game... mediocre to good at best and mostly derivative. I love sandbox games (I am still upset with what they did to SWG when they moved away from sandbox play) and being 37 and a developer... I really can't say my parents would not let me.
So yeah according to your rules I'm a hater...
HEY EVERYONE I'M A HATER
/rubbish!
Graphics: A-OK for me. There may be prettier games, but this one looks nice. Thats all I care about for that matter.
Story: One of the better ones in gaming. If it was a movie, it would get good critics, I guess.
Driving: That's one of the new things I loved most. If you drive more like you would in RL, it's fairly easy. Just make sure you use the brake sometimes.
AI: Good enough I didn't care about it, so neither bad nor incredibly good in my book.
I don't hate GTAIV, I just don't get why it had so many 10s. The game is good, one of the better games overall, but it has several major flaws.
Being the successor of San Andreas, it is mindblowing that R* took so much out of the game most peopled loved. There is no business to run, no house to buy, the sidemissions (taxi, police, firetruck) are reduced to a minimum and not as easy to access anymore, only very few weapons (no revolver, flamethrower? WTF?), there is NO TANK, there is no army that comes to kick your ass. If the game wasn't called GTAIV, I wouldn't miss them, but I know for a fact that R* CAN do it. The story, while being great, hurts the replay value for me. Once you finished it, it's hard to find joy in it again, at least I feel so. There are loose ends everywhere. What's with the russian guy with the diamonds that wanted to kill me? He just drove away! The choice system is made of pure hot air. Sure, you have three or four points in the game where you can choose, but ultimately, it comes down to only two ways to end the game - and that decision is made in the last half our or so, depending on your skills. After the end... I couldn't bring myself up to play it again. Didn't make any sense to me to just go out and do fun stuff after all that ****.
Another thing that just sucked for me were the radiostations, but that's just a matter of taste. I have to say, there was not a single radiostation that played music I liked. I miss Flash FM, Flashback, Radio X or even K-Rose. That brings another point up: R* took out the feature to use your own music in the game. I'm not even talking about the MP3-player cellphone that was cut in the last minutes, but no custom radiostation? WTF were they thinking? Why go backwards in so many ways? The multiplayer is a "meh" at best, imho. All it comes down to is just you and the other guy stand a mile away and start shooting at each other. If your smart enough you get a car and drive over everyone. Well, wen I was 13 that was fun, but today... but that's me and my taste. I actually like the new cheat system, but it stinks that everytime you get hit, Niko puts the phone back. The SIXAXIS tutorial is just badly placed. There were about a dozen times I hit it by accident - on the other hand, it's great if you want to flee outside a mission, since the police won't follow you afterwards.
These are my reasons to "hate on the game". I don't hate it, it's good, but it doesn't live up to the hype, imo. I for one would have liked a upgraded version of San Andreas better. Remember, I just wrote down the things I didn't like, there are a lot of things I liked and loved.
Well excuse me, but you're realy ignorant. GTAIV is not perfect. Far from it actualy. I'm tired of people saying GTAIV is the perfect game.
I'm disappointed about all the things that R* took away from GTASA.
Such includes: Character customization, the one in GTASA was magnificent , but why did they take it out from this one?
Niko walks incredibly slowly. Why do I have to hold a button to make him walk faster? I know this sounds stupid, but it gets irritating after a while.
Vehicles! This is a major part of the game that they took out. No airplanes?! Airplanes were a huge part of the game, why did they take it out of this one? Also, tanks. They were also great vehicles to drive with, blowing stuff up from a distance while on the go. Engines breaking down are pains in the ass! And why does it take so long for vehicles caught on fire to explode?
Theres nothing to spend money on. What happened to all those houses and areas we could buy?
The smaller variety of weapons also gets annoying. There are only 2 weapon tiers now.
And finally, the controls! Why do we use triggers to drive vehicles now? I didn't want a racing game when I bought GTA IV. Why did weapon changing also change controls?
My point is that you can't just hate on anybody who doesn't like this game. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
Totally agree with all your points. Sick of all these ignorant arm chair wannabe game developer haters talking shat about GTA IV.
There is NO question that GTA IV is by far the best open world game ever created. No matter what agenda the haters have they can't argue with that point...
Rockstar is one of if not the best developer of interactive media in the world. If it wasn't for them adult games would be in the dark ages still but I'm sure these whiny haters would like that since their all panzy bandwagon fanboys.
The missions are a chore, they aren't very creative and there's not much variety. When you beat the missions you get money and it unlocks stuff in the game, however money is pointless and the unlockable stuff just complements the game, it doesn't really change anything. This leaves me w/ an empty feeling.
This game feels so similar to all the other GTA's that once you start playing it for awhile it loses that cutting edge feeling. I'll admit that the online modes are pretty damn impressive but the core gameplay mechanics have yet to be innovated for the series.
Now for the 12 year old kid who wants to live out his adult fantasies, this game is perfect - it's just not for me, I need more substance from a game.
And I really don't see people trying totally trash this game - if anything they are just trying to bring the hype down a notch. This is far from the perfect game that certain critics would have us believe it is.
